Built to deliver full and accurate capture of spoken voices in broadcast, podcast, and studio applications, the PDX520 from AUDIX is a cardioid dynamic microphone with a natural, warm sound ideal for long-format vocal performances. With a 2-way switch for a HPF and gentle presence boost, the PDX520 is a versatile vocal workhorse.
While tuned specifically for an optimal vocal response, the PDX520 also features a high max SPL of 144 dB which, when combined with the onboard switches, allows it to produce excellent results on a range of instruments, including drums. The default gain level has been designed to avoid the need for external preamps or cloudlifters. The mic itself is robustly constructed, with a solid metal body, internal vibration dampening system, and an integrated arm for attaching directly to mic stands. The PDX520 includes a hard shell zipper case and a 5/8 to 3/8" thread adapter.
A Vocal Workhorse
The PDX520 features a cardioid polar pattern for improved isolation, even in sub-optimal acoustic environments, and its default gain level eliminates the need for preamp boosts or cloud lifters. Tuned specifically for natural vocal reproduction, the PDX520 helps to prevent listening fatigue.
2-Way Switch for HPF and Presence Boost
The microphone also features two, 2-position switches that enable users to quickly modify sound by adjusting the low cut and presence boost, minimizing the postproduction work. The low-cut filter has a cutoff frequency of 80 Hz with a 6 dB per octave slope. The presence boost switch offers a gentle boost between 1 and 5 kHz to sweeten the upper midrange.
Robust Build Quality
With a solid metal body, the PDX520 is built to last. The unique design takes inspiration from the AUDIX PDX720, featuring an internal vibration dampening system for the capsule. The mic also sports an integrated attachment arm for both microphone stand and XLR connector.Â
